Cosmic Dance. (c) Vitasta Raina, 2021

I found a discarded Canvas Board in my building complex. So, I picked it up and decided to make "art-from-trash". First, I painted it black, then, I made a night sky. Then I was pondering on what to do with it, when I decided to explore my current reading of Kashmir Shaivism.

It gave way to creating a concept around Shiva as Natraj. In The Tao of Physics, the Natraj has been written about as "the eternal cosmic dance of the universe"- that is, the "energy dance of subatomic particles". The Natraj pose itself has some unique symbology: the four arms each holding fire, a damru (small drum), a snake, and dandahasta (yogic pose where the hand symbolizes a 'door stop'. It represents the universal cycle of death and rebirth, and triumph of 'truth' over ignorance.
When looking at it from a perspective of subatomic particles, this cycle of universal death and rebirth can be interpreted as the Neutron Beta -Decay.

Here, I conceptualised the neutron itself as fire (ready to explode) and the three particle emitted as the electron (vibrations from the drum), the proton (as a spiral or coiled snake), and an antinutrino as a chargeless particle indicating a doorstop.

Outside the Natraj is a ring on fire, and Shiva stands atop a dwarf mounted on a lotus flower.
This ring of fire is indicated here as an electron cloud, and the electron itself is symbolised as a lotus (seen here as concentric circles). While the Natraj stands on a "dwarf" that symbolizes ignorance, I decided to relate that concept as the Uncertainty Principle through a 'mandala' surrounding the electron.

It's not a perfect analogy, and I am not a great artist, but I like the end product.

Here are the process photographs:
